The movie was short, but sweet so no complaints there. Took my girlfriend to see it on a date. It was cute. The soundtrack was awesome. I think Michael Cera is hilarious even though he only seems to play one kind of character.
This was such a couples movie. I went by myself and felt like I needed to hold a girls hand afterwards. haha. This movie was like Juno 2 in some ways. Michael Cera is cool and all I just think this character is the same. Kat Dennings reminded me of a young American version of Kate Winslet. She was refreshing to watch. Some of the dialogue was a bit rebellious considering many teens are seeing this movie. Then again I am sure the Breakfast Club was considered the same. I guess it was kind of good to showcase what it's like for a teen male to have gay friends. It is part of the real world and you don't see it in films often. Finally, I kind of wish there was a more High Fidelity feel with talking about music. The Cure reference was lame but it was the only thing that came close.
The movie starts as a typical, cliched teen comedy, but the second half really picks up and deserves to be in a better movie. The first half included too much of bg characters forcing the two eponymous characters to fall in love, rather than have them meet and do things under their own circumstances. But, when they do get together and have their time together in the city, the movie grows on you and it has really good scenes, especially in a recording studio. I could have done without the travelling gum subplot though. Worth matinee.
